Musical Peaks, Part II

The Active Pursuit of Music

At the age of nine I started playing classical guitar, which led to two distinct new additions to my musical repertoire: Renaissance and Flamenco.

My first guitar teacher, Slobodan Vujisic, played in Ensemble Renaissance, which was also the first live concert I’ve been to.

As for Flamenco, for a long time it was just another word for Paco De Lucia. Paco was Flamenco and Flamenco was Paco. I was lucky to also see him perform live some years later.

Renaissance music is gentle and playful. Flamenco is fierce and passionate. Having these two distinct styles as early preferences, while also being fortunate enough to experience them personally, through playing the music as well as visiting the live performances of the masters, was another significant aural milestone.
