The Hiding of Light

“Stelle dein Licht nicht unter den Scheffel”

I’ve only ever heard that expression in German. After a quick background check, I see the source is Biblical. In English it means “don’t hide your light under a bushel”, and means that one shouldn’t conceal one’s talents or positive qualities. I always liked hearing positive feedback, and who ever has created anything who didn’t enjoy being understood and appreciated? Hearing praise, on the other hand, used to make me uncomfortable, so I tried to keep a low profile. Not to mention, I was so accustomed to people making a big deal out of nothing or out of very little, that I didn’t want to join them, nor did I ever want to seem like I’m part of that club.

‘Hiding my light’ used to be the theme of my life, as if the simple sharing of what I can do would make me a bad person, and no, I don’t come from a religious household…

A Day like Yesterday

Once upon a time it was a yesterday.
Yesterday was filled with beauty.

Sometimes yesterday was painful or sad
But pain and sadness expire.

There is no expiration date on beauty.
